Volunteers’ Week With 4Sight Vision Support
Volunteers’ Week is an annual UK-wide campaign held from the first Monday in June to celebrate and recognise the contributions of volunteers. This initiative has been running for over 40 years, providing organisations and communities a platform to thank current and past volunteers for their invaluable efforts.
4Sight Vision Support (4SVS) has over 200 volunteers, and simply couldn’t function without them – Volunteers’ Week from 2nd to 8th June is a chance to recognise the fantastic contribution they make to its vital work supporting those living with sight loss across West Sussex. It’s also an opportunity to publicise how its Volunteers contribute, and to encourage anyone, from any background, to consider volunteering with them in the future.
There are many ways in which you, family and friends can help: 4SVS has ‘Ongoing Volunteers’ who commit to a regular role in assisting at the various Club it runs, helping out at its Centres, helping in the Head Office, fundraising, and driving. ‘Flexible volunteers’ have roles including packing the client Newsletter, managing and collecting collection boxes, and supporting fundraising events and activities.
There are also roles for ‘Micro-Volunteers’: knitting Easter and Christmas novelties to sell in local schools and other venues, recycling a wide range of items to help fundraise, and putting up event posters. Claire has been a Micro-Volunteer since 2021, she says, “I really enjoy knitting and its very rewarding making little novelties to help support such a good cause. I also recycle various items – including those which would otherwise go to landfill. I’ve also encouraged my place of work to collect stamps and ink cartridges for recycling too.”
Currently 4SVS have particular need of: drivers for the Mid Sussex walking group; people to pack newsletters; people to empty/site collection boxes and put up posters in their area.
