Valentine's Appeal February 2026
Your donation could provide support like Philip received, that changed his life. Every act of generosity, no matter the size, is a message of love and hope for someone who may feel lost and uncomfortable.
Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for showing love to 4Sight Vision Support and everyone who depends on us this Valentine’s Day.
Despite receiving client referrals from West Sussex County Council, we receive no council funding, and in the face of growing demand: we rely heavily on donations, legacies, and community fundraising, which is increasingly challenging in today’s climate.
Valentine’s Day is a time to show those around us how much they matter, and is therefore the perfect time for us to launch a major fundraising appeal to raise the funds needed to continue providing our support.
This appeal is about sharing a story that perfectly captures what that love can mean, and how your support brings hope to people with sight loss across West Sussex.
Below is a story from one of our clients. We hope you feel the love and support we felt hearing these stories.
One of our clients, aged 44, spent his life building a career he loved. He travelled the world, living a fast paced, busy life. He’d always lived with an eye condition, but his vision changed, and he was diagnosed with Glaucoma in his 30’s. As he grew older his vision changed dramatically, a haze descended “Like looking through a frosted bathroom window” His sight deteriorated, and it felt overwhelming. He lost his job and his family dynamic changed: he felt he was a liability; he couldn’t even do the washing up or cook.
Scared, anxious and confused, the client’s brother helped him contact local organisations, leading him to us. Organising and travelling to meet our Vision Support Advisor felt impossible. “It honestly felt like travelling to the moon”.
He met with our Vision Support Advisor, who told him about his own sight loss, our client then knew he was being truly understood. He was gently introduced to some magnifiers and reading tools. Suddenly something sparked. He could read newspaper sized print for the first time in two years. He said, “I can’t believe I can now read again.” His mind raced, and he could once again imagine a future. A spark like something was finally going to change. And it did.
This is Philip’s story. Thanks to a fantastic opportunity through an internship scheme for blind and partially sighted people, Philip is now working here with us, helping others living with sight loss while rebuilding his independence, confidence, and life: all the while being able to tell you his story with pride.
